GoodLink
and mVoice
I saw a post over at Treobits
about the new GoodLink Unified messaging solution. Ironically,
I stumbled upon this a week or so back after I upgraded our
GL server to the latest 4.x release. There was a new option
with the 3rd party softwares that GL includes (typically AcidImage
and DocsToGo) for mVoice. I've used mVoice before, but only
for the voicemail of my actual cellphone. Many carriers (including
Sprint and AT&T Wireless [now Cingular]) allow for voicemail-to-email
options and will either MMS or email you your voicemails. On
my own end, we have a nice Lucent/Avaya phone switch and Audix
voicemail system. I had long ago enabled the option to have
voicemails emailed over as .wav files. However, with GoodLink
there was no good integration. I was forced to download the
file to local memory or SD card, then open it with pTunes (which
meant having the .wav plugin). It was not a pleasant solution,
nor would it work over my BT headset. The other unfortunate
side effect was the left over .wav files that you had to remember
to delete.
The new mVoice solution that GL is offering (at no charge, BTW)
has nice integration. A voicemail is sent to the user via email,
and GL allows it to be played via mVoice. And it plays over
my BT headset to boot. Best of all, there's no leftover files
to delete. Delete the email and the .wav is gone as well.
Now here's the kicker... mVoice normally costs $20. GL is bundling
it at no charge. Thus, even if you aren't using any unified
messaging at work, you can still use mVoice for voicemail-to-email
playback for the voicemails provided by your cellphone carrier
(Sprint, Cingular, etc).
